Fabric can be costly, especially high quality wool and silk.

it's important to me that I know for sure that the fabrics I use for Hair Mitts™ and Hair Mitts™ Towels are 100% natural fibers.

Why?

Because natural fibers, especially wool and silk, are highly absorbent; both wool and silk can absorb as much as 30% of its weight in moisture. Soft, breathable, and naturally antimicrobial, wool and silk are my absolute favorite fabrics to use on my hair.

Cotton flannel may not be as luxurious as silk and wool, but it, too, is soft, absorbent, and is a reliable workhorse. Cotton can be machine washed and dried, is affordable, and easily available in fabric stores. And for those who may be allergic to wool or silk, cotton is the logical option.

Sure, there are "end of the bolt" dealers here in NC that offer deep discounts on upholstery yardage, but those bolts are notoriously unlabeled; knowing the exact fiber content of those fabrics is practically impossible.

Higher quality men's suits and sport coats are frequently made of natural fibers and by US law must be labeled as such.

I have a blast hunting thrift stores for these items, which are then laundered and deconstructed for the sole purpose of making Hair Mitts. This way I can provide a high quality product at an affordable price while giving new life to an old garment.
